ROSACEA

Rosacea is a commmon skin condition that’s characterised by facial reddness, particularly in the middle part around the nose, chin, cheeks and forehead. It can by also cause painful swelling around the eyes. Rrosacea affects more women than men, although men’s symptoms tend to be more severe.

SYMPTOMS

Skin redness is often the first sign of rosacea. Rosacea is sometimes associated with red spots and pustules and as it progresses, it causes small blood vessels to develop which cause persistent redness. Symptoms include:

  • Broken and dilated capillaries
  • A burning or stinging sensation in the face
  • Bumps, spots and pustules
  • Eye infections, dryness and sensitivity to light

Rosacea can cause long-term damage to the skin, although, rosacea generally does not cause scarring. Some people go on to develop rhinophyma, a condition that causes the nose to become red and bulbous. Men are more commonly affected by rhinophyma than women.

AVOID

  • Prolonged exposure to UV light – sunbathing or using a sunbed
  • Alcohol consumption (red wine in particular)
  • Excessive Exercise
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Hot and spicy foods
  • Extremes of temperature
  • Hot baths and saunas
