Dental Implants

Despite improvements in dental care millions of people worldwide loose their teeth every year - mostly due to tooth decay, gum disease or injury. Today dental implants are the most ideal solution for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants replace lost tooth roots and provide a strong foundation for permanent or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are small posts made from titanium that are anchored into the jawbone (into the socket of your missing tooth) to act as a replacement root for one or many teeth by supporting a crown, bridge or denture. The dental implant is composed of two parts: one part is a titanium screw, which is placed surgically within the jaw bone to provide anchorage for the second part, which is the crown, which is later fixed onto that screw to close the gap of the missing tooth and replace it both functionally and aesthetically.

How is Dental Implant Done?

The process begins with development of your own treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and is prepared by a team of professionals who are specially trained and experienced in oral surgery and restorative dentistry. Dental implants have to be fitted in stages. The first stage involves placing the implant into the jawbone. Once the jaw has healed, replacement teeth can be attached to the implant. It is sometimes possible to fit temporary replacement teeth at the same time as the implant is placed into the jaw but this depends on the nature of the implant. This can be advised individually when you visit Dental Care @Lesprit as to whether this would be possible in your case. Our dentist will match the color of the new teeth to your natural teeth. Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replacement teeth look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth.

Who Can Get Dental Implants?

Almost everyone who is healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. They must have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant as well as be committed to a good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Our dentist will help you assess your suitability.
